Wet food has to be converted to a dry matter basis because it is at least 75% moisture. That is done by dividing the protein by the recipracol of the moisture. If the moisture is 80, the recipricol is 20 (100-80) If the protein is 10%, then that is 10 divided by 80=.5 or 50%. So the food is 50% protein but a lot more has to be fed because most of it is water and not other nutrients. The same goes for homecooked. While Ellie ate about 1/2 cup a day in kibble, she eats over a cup with homecooked. Canned can be fed as a regular diet nutritionally speaking if it is preferred.
