I used to have a lovebird named Sam and I have 2 cats. At first the cats were excited and stalked him like prey. After a while they all got used to each other and Sam was just another family member. In fact, Sam didn't have any fear of the cats and would put them in their place. Sometime he would eat with the cats.

They definitely learned to respect Sam.
