He is a small animal vet, and I have used him for years for all my animals. I'm just worried about her pee/poo and if and when she should go. Should I keep her schedule as usual? I don't care if she does it on the floor as long as she goes, and drinks. I have never had this small of a dog, she will also have 3 teeth pulled. Should I get soft food? Any help is appreciated ! I know how worried you are, because I felt exactly the same! And I couldn't remember anything at all about spaying my 9 lb. Shih tzu 16 years ago.
Lexi was spayed in September. She was 3.1 pounds, and she did fine! I was crying there, and walking out, and on the way to work... When I picked her up that night, she was happy to see us. The vet handled her almost as if nothing had happened. I tried to be very gentle, and nothing really seemed to bother her.
We brought her home, and she was very sleepy. She did pee in her pan (she is litter pan trained), and she ate and drank. Despite having some teeth pulled, she ate her hard kibble with no problems. I remember she had slight diarrhea, maybe twice. It was probably actually more of a softer, slightly runny poop than diarrhea.
The next morning when I came down, she rolled on her back to get her belly rubbed! She was slower than usual and still sleepy that day, but walking around fine.
By the third day, you wouldn't know she had gone through anything at all! I never needed a onesie or collar, thankfully.
I know you are worried, but chances are you will be srurpsied at how well everything goes!
