I went through a bad patch with one of my dogs, and while we were trying to establish who owned who I had to use a cloth muzzle for awhile. They have them at Petco, and the dog can still drink water with it on.
This was our immediate solution, and I only suggest it to keep you safe while you work through this. Best wishes to both of you.
