I think you can search on here for lots of articles on this subject.
I have the most trouble when I give my little ones too much space to roam around and when I don't make them go outside at least every hour and more if they've just eaten or woken up. Some of my males like to go outside and then hold some back to go in the house after they've been outside. I make them stay out long enough to empty their bladder or send them right back out if they look suspicious.
I'm training 2 puppies right now and they are confined to the kitchen area only and are put in their crates when I can't watch them and at night.
