My girl got 3 of her retained k9's pulled (2 top, 1 bottom) at about 10 months old. She still has a small one in the front, and I could have sworn there was a small one in the back/side but the vet felt that only the 3 fangs needed to come out while the little one in the front he was to show us how to help wiggle it loose as he said removing that may ruin her adult one. Her adult teeth started coming in around 5-7 months. Most of her baby teeth fell out on their own between 6-8 months while some got a bit of "help" like my hubby playing tug-o-war with a chew rope... I swear he purposefully had her practically hanging off of it on the one end so that one of her lower fangs came off while tugging! I saved every one of what I was able to find, of course, lol. She's big on chewing so harder chew toys/bones help. While I inspected her teeth, I noticed a couple were loose and even came off with a light wiggle.
She had her surgery at noon and came back at 4pm and was whining and moaning the entire car ride. When she got home, she was resting a lot while moaning and complaining every other minute. She only went in for her teeth, so I know that's the only thing causing her grief. By 6pm she was only stumbling slightly from being weak/groggy to run to the door to greet people. Before that, she was just curled up in bed and being cuddled while moaning in discomfort. After another half hour, she was already scarfing down her dry kibble for having not eaten since 8pm the night before as per instructed by the vet office. It did not appear painful to her to crunch on her tiny bites (she chews/crunches her food and doesn't swallow it straight). By midnight she stopped complaining/whining/moaning. Only had her on pain meds for 2 days but used up her antibiotics/Metacam.
What I did notice is that she was never really a "tongue out all the time" kind of girl, only very rarely we get to see such cuteness, but ever since her dental work from day two onwards (day one she kept her mouth shut most of the time like a granny without her dentures
). I mean, she didn't get any front teeth pulled... so I wonder how it was possible that her 3 fangs kept her tongue in previously?? It's cute and all, I just hope there was no nerve damage.
She has it out DAILY now though not constantly, but it's out especially when she's been resting.
