To get rid of mats I use the small area slicker brush, it is shaped like an arrow. First I take the matted area in my hand and try to gently pull the mat apart, then I brush it with the slicker brush starting at the bottom of the mat, and working my way up toward the skin. Do not just put the brush at the skin area and try to pull the mat out, this will break and tear the hair out, but by working up the mat a little at a time there is minimum hair damage. Also, less hurt on missy or mister.
