I am probably not the best one to answer either, but I do trim the little tiny bit of hair out of the inside corners of the eyes. It doesn't necessarily get into my dog's eyes, but when she does tear a tiny bit it builds up there and gets crusty. If I keep that tiny bit of hair trimmed back it seems to be easier to wipe away those crusties without it causing her much discomfort. Other than that, I don't trim any other facial hair. I think it is all a matter of preference on your part, and how much maintenance you want to deal with. I don't mind daily facial washes...
