Totally agree. Stinky homeless people with lord-knows-what (lice, etc.) can also enter stores with food - which I find unappealing.
I always take my dog in a carrier in stores or carry him with me (do not take him into restaurants/grocery stores) - I never walk him on a leash in stores. This makes him easier to control and also less-conspicuoius.
