It never occurred to me it was a health issue ( although I have never taken her to that part of the Target, just really through the pet and home goods isles ) but I can see now why it would be. I most likely will not take her to Target now , just in case . I don't want to cause an issue with anyone.

As for the size issue . My friend has bull mastiffs and while I don't have a problem with small dogs in a store I would have a problem with big ones. That is mainly based on my own personal fear of big dogs , but also on the big mess they could leave behind. I know I am being very hypercritical about the situation..It know isn't fair to be O.K. with the small dog and not O.K. with the bigger ones , but I feel it's easier to accept a small one easier based on fear ( irrational or not) of being bite or jumped on by a larger dog vs a smaller one being carried. Like I said ...I know that is hypercritical
You need to come visit, I have a german shepherd. She would help you get over your fears of big dogs. I was attacked by a shepherd when I was young, but, was always in love with the breed. Shepherds teeth can scare anyone, but, mine has never bitten anyone, nor would she(unless they were hurting hubby or me, and I still don't know if she would bite then). My nephew is a deputy, he has seen what shepherds can do, so when he came to visit, you could see him going to pet her very cautiously. I opened the gate and let her out, and off she went. She hardly even paid him any attention. Of course, i would never own a mean dog.. A lot of big dogs are like gently giants!
