I would use Cosequin, and also would encourage you to talk with your vet about Adequan, which is an I.M. injection of polysulfated glucosamine and is noted as a disease-modifying osteoartheritis drug. It works by thickening the synovial (joint) fluid, reduce the pain and helps repair cartilage (sp??). There is TONS of researched clinical trials, and is widely used and regarded highly by veterinarians. I don't think it's safe for liver-compromised dogs, but I know that not much is. It is just another proactive option for dealing with joint disease.
