Also, I'd like to add... always end on a good note. Don't end a session because he's not listening, otherwise he'll think he can get away with not listening.
Also, what tone of voice are you using? When telling them to do something you can't be all sing songy, but at the same time you don't want to be too firm and screaming at them. You want to sound firmish, but not loud... if that makes sense.
