I really want to get a girl Yorkie. I am thinking of getting one late next year from the same breeder I got Biggie from. I would prefer to get one from the same Mom as Biggie.
I realize 2 dogs will be more work, but what really concerns me is how my Biggie will be affected by a new addition. My husband doesn't think Biggie will do well with another dog. Biggie doesn't really seem to be into other dogs at the dog park. He goes up and smells them but he is more interested in smelling everything at the park rather than playing with other dogs. My brother in law has a german mix named Lucky. Lucky just turned 1. Biggie and Lucky get along for the most part, but Lucky tends to be rough and likes to lightly grab Biggie's legs and face..I know Lucky is just trying to play. Biggie goes nuts on Lucky and starts snarling..and then they get into a fight. I don't blame Biggie..he obviously doesn't like the rough playing. Biggie is also very territorial. He'll snap at Lucky if Lucky wants to sit on my lap..yes that big dog loves to sit on people's lap.

My concern is if we bring another dog that Biggie will be unhappy. He obviously will have to share our attention and affection. The last thing I want to do is make him miserable. I also don't want to fall in love with another dog to then have to give it up because Biggie is unhappy.
Is there any way to know if it is a good idea to bring another dog into the home or not?
