If you want, you could get a crate and leave the door open on it and put it in an xpen, but, I feel a puppy has so much energy, they need to be able to move around and play, and that's why I've always used xpens. You can put a bed, pee pad, water, food and toys in there, and it's so much nicer than keeping them in a little crate.
