hmm, i'm not sure i can give you an actual answer other than what you said... maybe he is so used to being in your arms, etc and when he got so much "free" space, he doesn't know what to do with himself?

has he ever been in a crate? i know with jackson, i give him his time to run around and play in a confined area and let his energy out, but he gets put in his crate if he hasn't pottied yet or if he's just tired. he gets his naps in in his crate and loves it, it's sort of his safe place.

maybe gradually give him more freedom... does he sleep in the x-pen at night?

and i'm actually purchasing an x-pen in a few days for jackson so that can be where he has his playtime rather than in my room.
