I, too, fell in love with the yorkies long, gorgeous coat. The beautiful steel blue. The almost golden color. Their coat attracted me. Then, while looking for a dog, I read more about them. Kept reading. Kept reading. And, I decided the breed was perfect for me. I've always loved terriers. Always. Terriers are the perfect companions for me because we're both boundless balls of energy. I like a dog who will keep me on my toes. However, I also like a dog who will be "my shadow". So, while looking for a dog, I tried to find such a breed. American pit bull terriers are perfect for me. However, they are loyal to everyone. Not just their human. Jack russell terriers seemed a good idea... but, they're a little too terrier. I toyed with the norwich, the norfolk, the dandie dinmont... I toyed with about every terrier I could possibly think of. Then, I flipped to the toy breed section and found the Yorkshire terrier all over again. I read about them. They were perfect. They combined the terrier-nism that I love so much with the small, toy personality that I love so much. They were gorgeous. Perfect for me. Then, I met my first yorkshire terrier. She was the PERFECT match for me. She had the long, beautiful coat of a yorkie. I met my second one shortly after. He had the puppy cut. His owner showed yorkies in confirmation and obedience and when we met, she was on her way to an obedience show. It was summer- which was why he had the puppy cut and not his normal long coat. I remember when I met him- I was walking home. I headed up a hill. He approached me, tail wagging away. He had busted his leash some how and she was trying to catch him. I picked him up for her and that coat... it was so soft. She thanked me and put him back on his leash. I had told her I was considering the breed and she gave me a link to a rescue site. Said she bred but always sent people there first. That dog was gorgeous and full of personality. Since then, I've loved yorkshire terriers. |
