I just found out today that my 7 month old baby girl has Legg-Perthes Disease. I noticed about 2 weeks ago that Piper was walking around with only 3 legs and other times she seemed to walk perfectly normal. She didn't seem to be in pain and she was her happy little self. I didn't know if her foot, knee or hip was bothering her so I figured I better bring her to the vets to see what was going on. The vet knew just by handling and feeling the leg that it was the hip and suggested that we x-ray to see exactly what was going on. In the x-ray you could actually see that the ball of the femur was pitted and deteriorating and kind of floating around in the socket. The vet said that I should inform my breeder because this was an hereditary defect and other puppies could be affected. He also told me that it could happen to the other hip some time down the road. I have to admit that I'm really disappointed with the breeder because I made sure that I didn't buy from a broker or a pet store hoping to avoid something like this.
