I always leave food out whenever I leave, and of course water. I also hid treats under or around his stuffed animal toys. Gives him some entertainment, as I say. A lot of times he doesn't eat or look for the treats. I think he sleeps while I am away. He's a nibbler and eats when he wants. His habits are like mine, tho not all of them
