I like the squatting male myself. I have my only male trained to pee pads, he was neutered the day after I brought him home at 5 1/2 mos. He doesn't actually squat, but, he goes and gets in the middle of the pee pad and stands, he actually aims better than the girls. He will occasionally lift it outside on the trees or a bush when he's out there playing, but, then when he comes back in, he goes back to the way that I want him to go. A lot of males when they get fixed before they start lifting their legs never start lifting, which to me is an excellent thing. My sons yorkie was neutered after he started lifting his leg(neutered at 5 1/2 mos, but, started lifting before), and he's always lifting it here and there in the house, told my son, if it was my dog, he would be in a new home. Be thankful he's not lfiting it
