I think because they are small and beautiful and we like to dress them up they cannot be "guy" dogs. My Husband takes Bridgette with him a lot but he always says "if someone asks, you made me bring her." I also dress her up all the time and he will refuse to hold her little pink leash. He also has a picture of her in his tood box at work. If anyone asks, he claims "it's my wife's dog." And she sleeps on his pillow every night.
But he will never admit this to any of this to "the guys."
Here's another thing he will NEVER tell you. He chose Bridgette!
I'm going to copy the arrival story of my Dogster page:
Mom thought maybe she should write something about me since I have been here quite a while yet and still do not have a diary!
I was "rescued" in august of this year (2007)! Momma had been walking through the flea market! First big trip without my human sister! Anyway momma spotted my old owner! She had lots of dogs! Momma HAD to stop her to say hi to all the babies! She had an adult Pekingese along with one of her babies! Two Pomeranian puppies no momma! And a Doxin! She never did spot me until my old owner pulled me out from under the stroller the little cargo hold spot! Dad's first words were "WOW she beautiful!" The lady mentioned they were all for sale! Mommas heart skipped a beat! But she knew in her heart the buying a dog was just wrong when there are so so so many homeless babies out there! Momma got the lady's number because she said she wanted her human daughter to come see all the puppies!
When momma did come to see us ( all the doggies) Momma found out the male Pomeranian puppy and the doxin had died over the weekend!
"WHAT!?!" Momma exclaimed!
The baby pekingese was already "sold!" So they sat there a while and played with us! Taylor my momma's human daughter loved the other Pomeranian! Momma fell head over heals for the momma pekingese and daddy fell for me! She wanted an obscene amount of money for all of us! My new family finally decided it wouldn't be right to buy! And decided to leave to go look at some shelters!
Momma's gonna take over -
We got in the car I looked over at my husband and I saw tears in his eyes! And let me tell you he is a manly man that never happens! The only other time in my life I had seen that Is when my daughter was born!
We decided we just couldn't pick one! We gave the BYB a "down payment" and told her we'd be back in two weeks as agreed to pick up our babies (the Yorkie and the pekingese) and pay the remaining balance! Since we were in the process of moving and didn't want to bring them in on all this!
Anyway I went home to dream every night about my future babies! Only to get a message one morning!
" I'm so sorry I sold Maggie (the Pekingese) I know you were in love with her but someone offered me more money and could take her today!" I know I should have stopped right there and got away from that BYB!But man am I glad we didn't!
I was absolutely devastated! I went straight to her house in tears and told her I would pay the rest for the Yorkie and take her NOW!"
We found a number of things about her gruesome past in that time! Her first owner was her mothers breeder! They tried to breed my Bridgette with only one successful breed only to have her babies ripped away from her at 6 weeks old! Then she was "sold" to this lady because the breeder decided she had more dogs than she could handle along with her life long partner another Yorkie named "Buddy." Who would was poisoned about a month after they moved in with the new owner do to a disgruntled neighbor! Then this lady bred her she had three puppies and not one made it! How horrifying of an experience for her!
We decided we wanted her NOW and thought she needed rescuing just as much as any dog in a pound if not more! She had to fight (Bridgette fight HA) all the other dogs over ONE bowl of food! They agreed to get her for us and went to find her! They couldn't... only eventually hiding under one of the beds cowering in fear! She signed over her papers (AKC) and we took off! First stop was the vet for a health check up! Only to my surprise she was fine just needed a bath, some dematting, her nails trimmed, some mouth wash, and some food! And some serious flea medicine! All routine care this lady didn't see necessary! We had her nails trimmed some doggy mouth wash for her terrible breath and some heartworm and flea medication. We got all her vaccines since the "breeder" didn't have any records of any vaccines.
When we got home we finally got a chance to get a good look at her! She was indeed beautiful! But she was a pitiful excuse for a pet! She was so thin you could see and feel all her bones! Her hair smelled terrible and was in terrible matts! I gave her her first bath that night and her hair fell out in clumps! We dried her up, commed out all the remaining matts and gave her lots of kisses and gave her some food! She looked at us like she had never seen food in her life and ate two and a half bowls! Wow! For a 3 1/2 lb dog that's A LOT! The BYB also told us she did not like any treats! HA! That's a laugh! She has loved just about every treat we have ever given her! She obviously never tried giving her any treats!
She seemed to be in high heaven just to be able to be loved have all the food
She needs and be clean!
We actaully bumped into that BYB at a pet store about a week later! Bridgette had since been professionally groomed, had her teeth cleaned and looked like a different dog. She said "Is that Bridgette?" I handed Bridgette to her to hold her. Bridgette cried and cowered in her arms lunging to get back in mine. That makes me wonder what tramua she must have experienced with that lady!
She is just the sweetest little girl ever! All she wants is to have her belly rubbed all day long! She gained a pound and a half and is quite chubby now! She will never again have to worry about fighting for her food she will not be neglected and mistreated! I don't think she has or will ever forget about us coming to rescue her! She truly is a daddy's girl! She has found her forever home and I know she will have a good happy healthy life here!
But to this day he will never admit Bridgette was his choice!
It's just a macho thing, unless it's a big dog "it's not manly" to a man.
