There are a ton of threads here on crate training your puppy -- it might help to read some of those.

I've heard that this can happen with puppies. They are thrilled to be outside and then when they get back inside, they're like, oh right, I was going to potty, better take care of that now!

I adopted a mostly house broken yorkie, and the one thing we really have trouble with is playing fetch inside. Even if I take him outside to pee RIGHT before, he still pees after he really gets into it. Maybe I need to break fetch time into five minute intervals.

Oh, also - if he poops in front of you, do you correct him? I would think that's a good sign, actually, because he's not stealth-pooping. It seems like he just hasn't made the connection yet.
