I agree, booties are a good thing, however, some dogs just never take to them, so give it plenty of time for him to get use to them. Just snow is not so hard on their feet, it's the ice and salt that can cut their pads.
If after you've been out for 5-10 minutes, stick your hand under his coat if he feels warm, isn't shivering and still seems happy to be out you'll probably be ok to stay out for a little longer. Let him be your guide, if he gets cold or doesn't like being out in the cold his body language will let you know.
Also be sure to keep him well hydrated. It's just as important in the winter as the summer. |
