I feed her about 1/4 cup of dry reduced diet food 2x daily.. so she is only getting 1/2 cup per day and she is at 10 pounds. I have cut out all treats other than an occassional dental bone once a week. My vet has told me to still cut her food amount down. I can't believe that 1/2 cup daily is too much for her. I feel terrible for her since she is constantly leading me into the kitchen and will just gaze up at the food jars. I do not give in anymore and try to get her mind off of food.

We are now off to Petco and will be purchasing Natural Balance reduced diet food.. I am hoping that she will like it and do well on it. If anyone has any experience with it, please do let me know.

Thanks for all of your input...
Layla was overweight. Even 1 pound for these guys can be "overweight" and she had to loose a pound and a half. You know- you can try to give your pup carrots or frozen peas- apples, pears. This way she is still snacking and not extrememly hungry (like people- she needs to keep her metabolism level all day so snacks are great) and they are VERY healthy treats. She can have fat free yogurt, melon, peppers. These will work great for treats and they are still healthy and they are keeping food in her little tummy. Walking her around the house is a great idea- gets her used to what she is supposed to do on a leash also try doing stairs a few times a day. Another GREAT way to give her exercise is hydro therapy. I do this with Layla because she has LP in her leg and it is good exercise for her leg. I just fill the tub up, hold her up and she just paddles- it is a natural reaction for your dog to do and the exercise is honestly the best she can be getting- swimming is great for dogs and people. also there is less impact on her joints- until she looses the weight it is a great way to get it off- and avoid the snow
