i never cut them. I put her tail through the snap holes and when we went out to potty i just undid the onesie and rolled it up. Some people do cut it but i'd imagine pee would get on it and then you'd need to change it since that wouldn't be very sanitary near an incision so i'd just roll it up when she needs to go out.
