Default Making a Schedule and Sticking to it

I have to keep reminding myself how good of a dog Max is, because I keep getting frustrated and I don't think it is helping him. The problem is the pooping. If he isn't outside at the moment HE needs to go, he goes in the house. I know he can hold it, he just doesn't understand. I'll take him out for 10 minutes, bring him in, and 5 minutes later he will poop when I am watching him. I suppose I am doing something wrong. I praise him when he poos outside in his area (so far, the count is 1). He has poo'd in the house about 6 times and I've had him 3 weeks. He poops normally once per day around 6-8.

Now, that being said, I can just take him on a walk everyday so he poos. My friends dog does not pee or poo besides on walks and I do not want Max to be like this and never be fully potty trained. I am writing this to see what I'm doing wrong and so I stick to a schedule. It is probably a little to harsh for him but it is only temporary until he learns. I know he will poo on the walks so I try to make him poo in his area before walks. I am just starting this now and it worked yesterday but today he won't get a night walk. I want him to learn as soon as he poos in the area he gets a treat, praise, and a walk (which he loves). I think this is unfair to him but I am so upset that probably is not helping.

Week 1 and 2: Keep him on a tight leash or in the crate. No exceptions. Take outside: 6:30 AM, 1 PM, 6 PM, 6:20, etc every 20 minutes until he poos. If he poos, go on a walk and praise.

If all goes well:
Weeks 3 and 4: Keep on leash or in room. No exceptions. Take outside and follow the same rules.

I will continue to watch him for the next few months. Christmas break is coming up so I will be able to give him 100% attention. I am so frustrated I am looking for a trainer, but I definitely do not have the money. I found a really good trainer that either takes him to her house for 3 weeks for $800. He would get socialization, house training, obedience, and she would teach him off leash stuff as well. She has a lot of good reviews and I may pet sit for a Pug for a month to get some money. If I do I will probably do the training since I know it would be better in the long run. Here goes..
