When I was little my mothers mother would go all out on Christmas Eve. About 20 years ago I would have been maybe 5 or 6 years old and the oldest grandchild, and my little sister and cousin who would have both been about 3 or 4. To this day I am not sure who it was but someone would call the house and pretend to be santa(this was before cell phones) and say that he was at the gas station lost and couldn't find the house and asked if we could come meet him. So my aunts would put us in the car and take us down the road to look for him. Well he was never there and we would be so upset and they would take us home. When we got back to grandmas she would throw flour on the porch if there was no snow and make boot prints as if santa had been there and when we went in all the presents would be under the tree.
I can't believe I am old enough to remember stuff that happened 20 years ago I feel so old now.
