Myself, I don't think it matters, other than when they're a little older, it means less time going through the "chewing" stage.
I just brought home my little girl 2 weeks ago(she was 5 1/2 mos), and I just sat her on the floor with the other 3 dogs and let them smell her. Within 10 minutes, the shih tzu, that is going on 11 years, was wanting to play with her. All 3 of the other dogs are very protective of her, and the other biewer I have, just started actually playing with the new one a couple days ago(I've had the new one 2 1/2 weeks now)
