Rose The Public

So far in taking Molly out, it has been to visit my son's at their schools. They're in residential schools right now to address their issues. They are both autistic. It is unfortunately a disability that you can't see like blindness, etc. Instead it shows up in behavioral ways. such as when they become overstimulated and react by having tantrums. You should see the looks and comments I get from that. My boys are 10 and 13, so of course people look at me when they react that way. I've learned to read them for their triggers, etc to help ward off meltdowns. but I'm not always successful.
These are also the same people who treat you like public property while pregnant. I can't tell you the number of times strangers would come up touching and feeling my abdomen to "feel" the baby. I was so shocked, that the initial times I was speechless. Then they would proceed to ask all sorts of what I consider private questions; such as was this planned or an accident? Unbelievable!
With Molly though, the kids ask me first if they can pet her. Molly just eats up the attention. And my son just proudly beams over her. And, I hear from both the kids and the staff how cute they think she is. So far I haven't run into anyone rude or overly aggressive (picking her up without asking).
People who would try and/or do pick Molly up would scare me: first by worrying about them dropping her and second, theft. I would never allow anyone except family and close friends to pick her up. I just don't trust strangers with my dog.
I would feel upset by that woman's rude comment too. But I would console myself with the fact that usually people who do that are insecure themselves over the same thing(s) they "attacked" you over. They do it to make themselves feel better.
Take comfort in that the majority of people do like yorkies and think that they're cute and can sometimes be a little zealous about it.
And, that we here at yorkietalk will always feel that she is adorable and perfect just the way she is.
