I would suggest a big cage or xpen with a plastic box for her to have the puppies in.
Here is Destiny's whelping pen right before she had the puppies.
I use an xpen to keep it enclosed. She has her box, pads, food, toys, and her own bed (not shown in this picture) in the pen. The box is one of those plastic storage bins that fit under your bed and then I just add sheets and blankets. Sheets and pads until she is done delivering. It makes it super easy to clean out.
I leave the one end of the pen open a little bit when I am here so she can leave the pen when she wants but when I am gone it is shut the whole way so no one else can get in.
It works great, it gives her plenty of room and she is very happy with it. And she loves having her own bed in the pen besides the box so she can get away from the pups but still be near. |
