I live in the DC area too. Do you know what kind of tick it was? In May I got a lone star tick bite that resulted in multiple trips to NIH for STARI treatment and research. I know friends in the area whose pets have been treated for Lyme's from deer tick bites. I'd take him to the vet. A round of antibiotics may take care of the problem straight away.
