The receptionist shouldn't be trying to answer those types of questions unless they are 100% sure of the answer. They should've put you through to a tech (which would've still said to bring him in

) but sometimes if your vet is really understanding, they will talk to you on the phone and if it looks the exact same, they could make the call on whether to see him or not.
I would not be happy if the vet wouldn't even try to help you on the phone and kept charging for post-op issues but that's just me.
