I can relate!!! My little Maddie...the first time I took her to the groomer, she was wild and crazy, so one time when I was at the vet I asked if there was something I could give her to calm her so that she wouldn't be so scared at the groomer. He gave me some valium to give her and I made her an appointment and gave her the pill 2 hours before and I think the pill had an adverse effect on her because this time the groomer said she turned into the Tazmanian Devil...totally wild and crazy and biting at the groomer. She didn't get a thing done to her that day except for a bath and the groomer made it clear Maddie wasn't welcome back there. Ugh. So, I bought a pair of clippers and have been trying to do it myself. I so wanted to have a nicely groomed yorkie, but I just won't put Maddie or another groomer through it again. She sits well for me when I'm grooming her, but I think when she's in a strange place and with a stranger, she's just scared to death and fights it tooth and nail!
I know there's some sort of sedative that just emits a vapor or something that is supposed to calm a dog. I've not tried it, but I remember reading about it. I know when I gave Maddie that valium...a very small dose, I felt just awful doing it, but I also trust my vet and his recommendations, but still felt rotten giving it to her.
I hope you find some answers! Good luck! |
