I am totally not an expert by any of stretch of the imagination, but my pup (fingers crossed) just got over giardia in one round of Metronidazole and 5 days of Panacur at the same time. Many things I've read say the metronidazole is only just a little over half effective against giardia, and the panacur is the best for fighting it. Add the two together and - WHAM! - adios nasty giardia! That's what my ved prescribed, and I was very happy to see so much information supporting that combo.
But beyond that, I was really really obsessive about cleaning - more even than the vet said we had to be (she seemed pretty laid back about the whole thing at first). Immediately after each poo, I scooped Nikko up and put him in a fresh bath to wash his bum and paws with baby shampoo, then threw my shirt in the washer. I don't even know if he has an affinity for poo-eating because we never give him time to even turn around before picking him up. At the same time, my DH would run and scoop up all the poo then pour a bleach solution over the area. Teamwork!
I know having two other dogs would make things more difficult, but good luck to you! I've read that older dogs can carry giardia in levels not dangerous to themselves as adults too, or can very easily get the giardia and not show symptoms till later, so I think sometimes when one dog in a house gets giardia, all the dogs get treated just to be on the safe side. Just type in giardia and your medication names in google or in the search function of this forum, and you'll find tons of articles with tons of info.
Good luck. :-)
