It sounds like he is doing what you've trained him to do; go potty outside. So, during the night, he barks so to let you know that he needs to go potty. I think it's creating confusions for him if he's expected to go outside AND to also go on the piddle pads. So, i think until he gets older to where he can hold it thru the night, you may just have to give up some sleeps and let him out. I know, no help here! = )
My 4 mo. old still needs to go 2x a night. When i first got her home at 9 weeks, she woke me up every 2 hours to take her out of her crate to go potty on papers. Now at 4 mos. she's waking up 2x/nite now and I am very very thankful for the extra sleep. I know that it's work having a puppy so i expected the sleepless nights.
