I read that the number one cause of dry flaky skin is not rinsing thoroughly. Joey's breeder really stressed the importance of this, as well as, diluting shampoos before putting them on his coat. I rinse really well, and then set the microwave for a minute and warm his towel; during this minute I continue rinsing him. I'm not sure what type of puppy shampoo you are using, but two products mixed together are seldom as good as two products used separately. I like the Biogroom products, they have a cream rinse/conditioner that leaves his hair tangle free, and shinny without looking oily. They also have an oatmeal shampoo that is said to be good for dry or sensitive skin. If you believe you have been rinsing well enough, and the flaking doesn't go away after a few weeks, you might want to check into his diet. Some dog foods have large amounts of corn, and some dogs are allergic to it.
