Ours was pretty much the same way, except my DH was wanting the yorkie and I thought he was nuts. We chose Chip's name after we got him home and played with him for awhile. 7 months later I get a call from my best friend's mom that there is a yorkie needing a home badly... so the next day I went and got my Smokey :-) The rescuer had already renamed him Smokey, but his original name was Coby. I figured that his name had already been changed and I didn't want to confuse him anymore (he had been to 5 homes and he was only 6 months old.) so we just kept Smokey.
