APRI is a good registry that requires at least a 3 generation pedigree to register your dog and most of the dogs registered with them are dualed with AKC as well. They were formed way before DNA was a requirement from AKC as someone stated. |
They use to be the same, and they split apart for some reason, but I think both are used to mislead consumers. Here's a link that explains some of the differences in registries.
