Speaking strictly on personality, the maltese I've met have been delightful, every bit as loving, filled with personality and energetic as Yorkies. I don't know about the coat, but I think it probably comes down to how much time you want to put into it. Yorkies can be high maintenance too.

I love the yorkie's fiesty, fun attitude... I like being bossed around... I don't mind upkeep. The poodles are high maintenance---probably the most high maintenance of dogs.
BTW I've watched your videos of your dogs and you are so good to them! they look like they have so much fun with you!
