Our 14 yr old stroker survivor has finally died Jazzie, our 14 yr. female old yorkie who had a stroke in June has finally died. She had recovered from the stroke thanks to lots of hard work as well as lots of prayers and advise from some on this website..thanks to all who helped. A couple of weeks ago, she got constipated and didn't want to eat. We tried the suggested remedy of canned pumpkin and also tried getting her to take some other nutrition with some success. As she was also a diabetic who required daily insulin and also required thyroid medication twice a day, her blood sugar levels became nearly impossible to regulate. She just seemed to get weaker each day for a few days, although still in good spirits and not in any distress. We gave her some nutrical on the morning of November 16th and checked her blood glucose levels...that day it swung from 32 to 448. There just didn't seem any way to get it to moderate. Her breathing was irratic by late afternoon and I held her in my arms as she took her last breaths, even as she died, she knew she was loved. She was a very loving friend and member of the family and she will be deeply missed. Thanks to all who wished us well during her stroke recovery. I guess you can delay the grim reaper for a while, but ultimately, life is what it is....fleeting. Enjoy your yorkies while they are with you, they are truely a blessing. dales53 |
