yeah. I never use pumpkin pie mix...
I usually make little pumpkin balls for my babies with just a tad condensed milk, cinnamon, vanilla,eggs, etc... and bake it in the oven. They love it. They love pumpkin!
When I can, I use fresh(pureed by me)pumpkin...if that is not available--canned works fine!
