There are some great solutions in this thread. Omegas are always great for these babies; keep in mind that a dog's body always uses Vitamin E to process fish oil, so if you use fish oil you should also supplement with vit. E -- or buy Eicosaderm (vetamerica.com) which has the fish oil with the vitamin E already in it.

Also, skin is an elimination organ -- so when there is a problem, it is beneficial to try to work from the inside out by looking at diet first and supplementation following that. If the skin is irritated, it can be bc something is irritating the system from the inside. If food doesn't help the issue (after elimination diets), then envioronmental/seasonal allergies could be present -- for which you still want a more simple diet (bc the immune system is already challenged and then more vulnerable to food allergies) -- and probably need supplement support, symptom support (from the outside), and meds as a last resort.
