I would first call them and ask to speak to the postmaster or supervisor and explain the situation. Have them call you back with info and if you don't hear back from them call them again. Just be very persistant, even when they wouldn't find my package that day they would call me back to let me know they will continue to look for it the next day. I don't think going everyday will make a difference, I just went cause the post office was very close to me.
