I got my baby used to car rides pretty quick. I took her with me on short trips at least once a day. At first, she was scared and I needed to keep her in the crate. That might feel the safest for her, especially if shes used to having one inside the house for her to sleep. A 3 hour trip should be no problem. I've taken mine on several 4 hour trips to visit family. She really does like riding in the car now. (Shes about 8 months old now.)

So, bring her crate and if she seems scared place her in the crate during the trip. Once she is in the car more, she may feel better and more comfortable riding in your lap or a doggie car seat. Whichever you prefer.
