I've been googling "reverse sneeze" and I'm pretty sure you are both right. I've watched a few videos that I've found of other dogs doing it and they sound pretty much just like what KaCee does. So I guess there is nothing to worry about? I'm just supposed to try to calm her down and cover her nose to stop it.
It's such a horrible noise, I can't imagine that it feels very good on her little throat.
