It is true that dogs with floppy ears are more prone to ear infections and mites. The reason is because when the ears are flopped over its a good place for bacteria to grow..there is no light getting to the ears and it trapped warmth and moisture therefore resulting in infections. They have this problem a lot with Cocker Spaniels. I am dealing with an ear infection at the moment because Gracie's ears have yet to stand therefore trapping moisture in her eyes. The vet said plucking the ear hair that grow inside will help and also tipping the ears about 1/3 of the way down the ear...your groomer if you have one usually does this until your Yorkie is about 6 months because according to them after 6 months they just wont stand...I dont know how true that is. I have also heard that sometimes the base of the ear is too wide and therefore your Yorkie will never physically be capable of having standing ears
