I have three labs that I have been switching to a RAW & home prepared
diet. To transition this, I have been feeding them canned Merrick food
and what I have left of their Eagle Pack Holistic Fishy food. I
purchased the Meerrick because I thought it was a premium food (sure is
by the price per can) and I had read very good things about it.
I did however see a disturbing blurb on

Beef & More pet food. Merrick Pet Care also owns a Rendering Plant in
Hereford, TX. The rendering plant is located at the same location as
their Merrick Pet Care plant which they say is making human grade pet
products. Why would a pet food company who claims to use only human
grade ingredients in their pet products also have a rendering plant at
the same location? The rendering plant is owned by Garret Merrick who is
Tyler Merrick's father. Garret Merrick went to the USDA in ?I
think 2004 to state his support for use of SRM in pet foods. Why would a
company who prides itself in using human grade ingredients want to tell
the USDA that using SRM is okay in pet food? What else is Merrick
hiding? If you feed Merricks I urge you to contact them and ask for
honest answers. I called them on Friday?spoke with Ruby for a long
time, and expressed my concerns about these facts. She told me that she
did not know who Garret Merrick was and that she did not know anything
about a rendering plant located in Hereford, TX. She promised me that
Merrick Pet Care only makes one brand of pet food. Later in the
day?while driving home from work I wanted to call Merricks back
because I had not heard from Ruby. I called 411 for their number and was
given 866-476-3310. They answered the phone saying "Blue Sky Dry
Food Plant'. I thought I called the wrong number, so I asked
?"Is this Merrick's Pet Care" and she said "Yes". I
then asked her ?"What dog food does this company make" She said
"We make Merricks and Beed & More". I then asked to speak with
Ruby and I was transfered to Ruby's voice mail. I have yet to hear
back from Merrick. IMHO?there are no pet food companies that can
not be trusted.
Has anyone ever heard of this? Am I poisioning my dogs by feeding them
this food? I do not want them eating rendered food. I heard sometimes
people have difficulty in getting responses from Merrick when they have
asked questions.
I would soon like to get them off processed food all together, but I
know my mom still feeds this canned food to her lab on occasion. The
dogs absolutley love this food. Any thoughts?
