First just like any hairstyle they can look good, or they can look bad.
There are a bunch of different ways to get them, but the most recommended I've found is backcombing. Essentially you tease your hair into a stringy knot. This way you control the size and location of each dread. Then add wax and after a few months your hair will hold onto the "knotting" mostly by itself. The least recommended is neglect. Where you do nothing. at all. to your hair. So in essence you'll probably end up with just a large mat in your hair instead of nice clean dreads. You are supposed to wash your dreads at least once a week but generally every 2-3 days with a shampoo that doesn't leave any residue in your hair. Thats the basics. ohh and i Just read this today. You should be able to take them out without cutting your hair off with a lot of time patiance and VO5. I like to think of it as an "orgainized chaos" type of hairstyle.
hope that helps a little |
That's really interesting. Thank you for posting some information about it. I'm going to have to do some googling because I'm still confused about how you wash your hair. In my experience, any knots in my hair come right out in the shower with a little shampoo. I'm guessing you probably have to be pretty careful and not really scrub.
