As for materials, check out Dog Booties. They use something called cordura for their sled-dog quality booties. I asked them about it, and they said it's not waterproof but it doesn't get soaking wet. I figure if it works for sled dogs, it would work for Yorkies. Evidently, they sell the material on their site.
