I think cats are a better indicator of whether a dude is "the right stuff" or not. A lot of dogs love everybody. It seems like less men like cats than dogs, and if my cat loves the guy I bring home (and the feeling is mutual) it means to me that he's probably a really good person.
They're a discerning bunch.
PS: I don't think you qualify for "crazy cat lady" until you have at least three. And live alone. I grew up with three cats and two dogs, so I'm just used to having all of them around. My house would feel naked without pets.
