If it's any comfort, I think the stereotype is oriented towards cats. I am single, and one of my friends FORBADE me to get a cat until I was married. She said I would look like a crazy cat lady. Most guys like dogs, and as others have said, would you want a guy who didn't?
I can see maybe a guy not being thrilled with a yorkie because it's not a "masculine" dog. And of course, some guys might feel threatened because the yorkie is smarter than they are.
